2013 Year in Review: Lambert Family

2013 was a great year for the Lambert family. We had lots of adventures and enjoyed learning and growing as a family. Here’s a summary of what’s happening with the Lambert Family.

I continue to work for US Bank (now in my sixth year) but on November 1, I changed departments. After 5.5 years in the small business banking group, I began a position as a relationship manager for the commercial banking group, which manages banking relationships for much larger companies. It’s been a good move for me professionally and I’m enjoying my new office on the sixth floor on 200 South and Main Street in the US Bank building (next to Capitol Theater). I’m not thrilled about the commute from Lehi to downtown every day (traffic, parking, etc.), so I take the Frontrunner a couple of days a week from the Thanksgiving Point station near my house. It’s quite convenient and I enjoy riding the commuter train whenever possible.

In 2013, I continued my path to a healthy lifestyle by maintaining my 2011 weight loss and training for my second marathon. In September, I completed the Top of Utah Marathon in Cache Valley and was pleased that I finished in 4:13, compared to 4:21 in 2011 at the Utah Valley Marathon (my first marathon). The last six miles were especially brutal, but I crossed the finish line with a smile!

Service in the Church has been enjoyable as I continue to work in the High Priest Group Leadership of my ward and also fulfilled assignments as the ward choir president and a member of the scout committee in charge of the flag fundraiser and courts of honor. In July, I had the privilege of participating in Woodbadge at Camp Tifie near Mount Pleasant and I very much enjoyed having that week-long scout leader training experience. I learned so much and really enjoyed my experience with the Owl patrol.

At the end of August, I had the opportunity to participate in my 20-year high school reunion and see many dear friends from so many years ago. I helped organize the event, which included an alumni-only night in the cafeteria of Hillcrest High and a nice dinner the following night at The Gathering Place at Gardner Village. I was extremely involved in high school (student government, choir, drama) and it was fun to remember those days. Here’s a picture of six of the eight student body officers from the Hillcrest class of 1993!

I sang in Witness Music’s production of “Lamb of God” by Rob Gardner in March. It was a thrill to sing that amazing music at Abravanel Hall as part of the choir accompanied by a full orchestra. We also did a Christmas concert at the Grand Theater in Salt Lake City.

I got back on the stage in 2013 in the production of “See How They Run” with the Lehi Arts Council. I played the Vicar, Lionel Toop, and really had a lot of fun with a talented cast in this farce involving mistaken identities and people chasing each other around the stage.

I also had the opportunity to sing the part of a shepherd in the annual production of “Echoes of Christmas,” a live nativity presentation at Liberty Park in December. Thousands came to the seven stations in which scenes from the Savior’s birth were presented through original song. It was very cold outside but it was a rewarding experience.Image

We had a busy travel year as a family. On New Year’s Eve 2012, we attended the city festivities in Provo and stayed at the Springhill Suites, and then visited Park City on New Year’s Day. My brothers Aaron, Nate and Dan, along with my brother-in-law Chris Davies did a “guys” weekend at East Canyon in January and enjoyed good food, movies, sledding and the hot tub.

Over Presidents Day weekend in February, Robin and I got to visit Cancun and we had an amazing time visiting the ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum, along with playing on the beach and enjoying the food at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Resort. Click here for more details and pictures.

We hadn’t been to Disney for many years, so in April we packed up the kids and drove to Southern California for an extended weekend. We enjoyed a day at Disneyland, a day at Disney California Adventure and a day at Laguna Beach.

Just before the kids went back to school in August, we took a short trip to Yellowstone and camped right in the park near Yellowstone Lake. We saw lots of waterfalls, geysers, hot pots, bison and even a wildfire. We stopped at Lava Hot Springs on the way there and visited Grand Tetons and Bear Lake on the way home. What a fun experience!

Robin has been super busy pursuing her degree in interior design at LDS Business College. She has now completed seven of nine semesters and is looking forward to graduating in 2014 and getting a job in her chosen field. She works very hard on every project and is at the top of her class. She stays VERY busy with school and caring for our four kids — there’s never a dull moment.

Parley has really been enjoying 9th grade at Willow Creek Middle School. He’s taking early morning seminary so he can fit more classes into his schedule (including a Chinese language class). He continues to play the baritone with the band and has joined FBLA (business club). He’s an aspiring engineer and loves to figure out how things work. His grades are excellent and he’s made real progress this year in his piano playing and karate.

Brianna attended her first Girls’ Camp this year and started 7th grade. She loves to read and has a real talent for drawing, which she does constantly. She has made some good friends and enjoys spending time with them. She also has made significant progress in her piano and is working on her Personal Progress.

Lily continues to be our little diva and loves performing mini-concerts and going to her tumbling class. A 4th grader at Traverse Mountain Elementary, she stays busy playing with friends and figuring out ways to earn money for her latest passion. She’s a sunny, fun-loving soul that sometimes turns stormy at a moment’s notice. She keeps life interesting around here, that’s for sure!

Sweet baby James is now six years old and is a real delight (most of the time). His smile and curiosity are so much fun. He loves to make crafts and enjoys putting on magic shows for us. He’s thriving in first grade this year and is reading very well.
